All aboard for the ‘summer capital’ of Hua Hin

The cabinet discussed the potential of making the increasingly popular coastal resort town of Hua Hin its ‘summer capital’ in a bid to escape the sweltering heat in Bangkok during the hot season.

Officials of the Public Works Department as well as the Royal Household Bureau travelled to Hua Hin, around 200km south of Bangkok, to inspect the royal palaces of Klai Kangwon and Mrigadayavan for possible use.

Earlier in the month, an increase in rates for hotels and bungalows in Hua Hin was announced. Rooms with meals during the season would cost 90 baht per person and bungalows could be rented out for around 80 baht a day.

Later in the year, the State Railway of Thailand inaugurated a rapid transit rail service with new coaches to seaside resorts along the Gulf of Thailand, including Hua Hin, further increasing the lure of the beachside town.
