The investiture of the Crown Prince

His Royal Highness Prince Vajiralongkorn, the King’s only son, was invested as the Crown Prince of Thailand in a lavish ceremony attended by nobles, religious figures, diplomats, politicians and military officers.

Buddhist and Brahmin rituals culminated when His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej invested the 20-year-old as Crown Prince between 12.23 and 12.33pm, a time selected as auspicious by royal astrologers.

Following the declaration, the King leaned forward from his throne at the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall and poured lustral water on the Prince as monks, headed by the Supreme Patriarch, chanted prayers. The event was celebrated across the country, while world leaders sent gifts and messages of congratulations to mark the occasion.
