First McDonald’s opens in Bangkok
Thailand’s first McDonald’s restaurant opened to an eager crowd who had massed outside its doors.
‘McDonald’s is now part of my life,’ declared the store’s first customer, munching on a trademark Big Mac. More than 100 people, nearly all Thais, rushed in when the first branch opened at the ritzy and popular commercial complex, Amarin Plaza.
A Big Mac cost 48 baht, the equivalent of four bowls of duck noodles and a bottle of Coke. McThai, the joint venture with the American fast-food giant, planned to open four more outlets in Bangkok within the year.
