Capital’s population swells to over 1 million

The capital’s city limits were expanded out in every direction to give the city authority over unchecked development taking place in Bangkok’s suburbs.

The city limits were pushed northwards by 200 metres, eastwards to Khlong Tan and southwards to Khlong Bang Na, incorporating about 14,000 more houses and over 90,000 people. The redrawing of the city limits put the total population of the capital at over a million for the first time. The Ministry of Interior said the extension was necessary to control construction in areas surrounding the city.
