Bangkok, Thon Buri merged into single city

Bangkok and Thon Buri were merged into a single metropolitan city, so it could be governed under one management team appointed from the civil service.

The Interior Ministry announced details of the legislation to amalgamate the two urban areas, which occupied opposing sides of the Chao Phraya River. The two positions of lord mayor, one for Bangkok and the other for Thon Buri, were eliminated, and the twin posts of governor for Bangkok and Thon Buri were also discontinued.
