Siamese twins split for first time in Thailand

In a medical first for Thailand, doctors succeeded in the separation of Siamese twins Krisna and Vasna, who had been born joined at the liver in Suphan Buri on July 4.

The team of five surgeons was under the expert guidance of Dr Snoe lndrasukhsri, who was chief of Siriraj Hospital’s paediatric department. The operation also made history because it was the youngest age at which Siamese twins had ever been successfully separated.

The two girls had been born in good health. Krisna weighed 1,800 grams and Vasna was 1,700 grammes. They were connected by a two-inch piece of cartilage and shared a single umbilical cord.
