Government seizes assets of the ‘Three Tyrants’
The National Assembly voted to seize assets of the so-called Three Tyrants—Thanom Kittikachorn, Praphas Charusathien and Narong Kittikachorn—valued at between 700 million and 1.4 billion baht.
The assets were allegedly gained through corruption. Premier Sanya Dharmasakti insisted an investigation was needed to determine which of the assets were gained through corruption, but after a secret National Assembly session on August 1 he relented. Later in August, Narong wrote to Sanya asking if he could return to Thailand to appeal the seizure. He was told he would be arrested for killing students if he returned. The trio eventually came home and fought to regain the property - albeit unsuccessfully.
