Alma Link was graciously bestowed the title of Lady or “Khunying” in Thai by King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great. She was the first foreign lady to receive the title. She was born Alma Sturm on 26 August 1898 and grew up in a nunnery in England where she learned to care for patients and the elderly. She later married Herbert Link, a leader of B.Grimm. The title recognised her service and devotion of her time and wealth to the welfare of Thai people. As a former nurse, she joined the Siri Watana-Cheshire Foundation under Her Majesty’s Patronage as one of the founding directors. She also chaired the Foundation for the Welfare of the Crippled under the patronage of Her Royal Highness the Princess Mother, as well as the Caulfield Foundation for the Blind, among many others.
