Central wins bid for new shopping centre

The State Railways of Thailand awarded a one-billion-baht contract to the Central International Development Company to build a mammoth shopping complex, hotel and car park on a 46-rai plot of land adjacent to the Phahon Yothin rail yards.

The company won the contract against 20 other bidders. The project, scheduled to begin in early 1979, included a three-storey shopping complex and a 450-room hotel.

Suthikiati Chirathivat, director of Central Group, said the investment showed the company’s confidence in the country’s economy and the retail market. The new centre would become known as Central Ladprao shopping mall.
