The ‘Bangkok Post’ enters the Internet age

The Bangkok Post announced that an electronic version of its daily news would be available online at an official Internet site: www. bkkpost.co.th.

The Post online initially contained all local and business news, with each day’s edition being updated by noon on the day of publication. The Post discussed plans to expand its website to include other sections, including Database and Outlook, while sponsorship would be sought from advertisers. The announcement was made at Net-Info ‘96, the two-day Thailand Internet Symposium held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.

Bangkok Post became the first media company in Thailand to provide online editions in the midst of economic slump faced by newspaper organisations worldwide.

Companies affiliated to two newspaper groups—Wattachak and Manager—won the state concession to offer internet services to the general public for a fee.
