Sino-Thai relationship ‘getting healthier’
Chinese President Jiang Zemin, on a state visit to Thailand, pledged to work for ‘even healthier’ Sino-Thai relations.
Jiang received a red-carpet welcome at Don Mueang Airport, where Their Majesties King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit, as well as Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai, were on hand to greet him. A 180-strong entourage, including his wife Madame Wang Yeping, accompanied Jiang, who became the third president of China to visit Thailand since the two countries re-established diplomatic ties in 1975. His predecessors Li Xiannian and Yang Shangkun paid visits in 1985 and 1991 respectively.
